What is "inexpensive?" It's kind of a subjective term and there is a lot more to it that just finding an inexpensive mass gainer. You're going to want to find something with a relatively high calorie count IN COMBINATION with quality meals. So, I think you'll find that this road isn't quite "inexpensive" no matter which way you go. I use a calorie/protein/carb dense whey protein that has over 600 C, 80+ carbs, and 50+ protein as a mid meal replacement for around $60 (10lb bag Real Gains Universal). Probably the best price you will find for what you are receiving in a quality product. It lasts me about a little more than a month when I use it mostly on training days, which is about 5-6 a week. Suggested serving size is 3.5 scoops, but I only use 3 because I fulfill all my necessary macros with the rest of my daily meals. Add a cup of milk and the rest water to a shaker bottle and you're good to go.
I do consume about 6 +/- pounds of chicken in combination with other meat sources every week. So, if you add that up your spending well over $100 bucks a month on main mass gaining type consumption, not including sides and other odds and ends you will consume in between.
Of course everything you need to consume to achieve your desired results depends 100% on your body weight, type, needed macros, lifestyle (work and play), etc and only you truly know that about yourself.
Commercial mass gainers are garbage! Liquid egg whites. I.have two of these a day
1 cup of whole milk
3/4 cup of liquid egg whites
2 tablespoons of natural peanut butter
1/2 cup of oats, (I run them through a coffee grinder which turns them to powder they're much easier to get down)
1 banana, chopped and thrown in the blender
I add a tablespoon of coco powder for flavor.
That's almost 600 calories right there.
For gaining mass in addition to that shake stick with chicken and beef
How many lbs and where's the best place to buy? I would ask where's the cheapest place to buy but I don't want to buy low quality meat that may have bacteria.
Dude, are you serious? Just go to your local Ralphs or Whole Foods or ever Costco for this.
As far as actual weight gainers go, we are not sure of your actual budget of what will be expensive to you, but the tried and true best gainer out there is Optimum Nutrition whey and Optimum Nutrition "Serious Mass". $40.00 for a 12 lb bag of the Serious Mass and $55 for a 5.5 lb jug of the whey. These are absolutely worth it if you really need mass gainers. There are cheaper options, and there are more expensive options as well, but this brand really really works.
Eggs, the most biologically-available protein out there!
Actually, that would be whey protein. Eggs are close though.
