24 will get bought out if that is what they are looking for. But the smaller independent gyms are more at risk if there are increased restrictions. I have seen 2 independent gyms within 10 miles of me already selling all their equipment and I have not been looking too much.

For those who have not gone backā€”are you taking a wait and see approach (if so, how long)?...is your membership on hold and/or do you plan to cancel your membership?
Here in Austin most gyms are now open. Including my gym, Planet Fitness. It's pretty much like pre-Covid, in that I can get in a full workout and all machines are available. No classes yet from their trainer, but I didn't use those much anyway. Being a lifelong gym rat and former trainer myself...still certified...I know what to do.

The main downside is that locker rooms and showers, bathrooms are still closed. So no lockers. So I just arrive at the gym in workout clothes, ready to go, and not in street clothes like usual.

Attendance seems light. I'd there's about half the normal crowd. But it's not noticeably empty and although us regulars notice the difference, a new member might just think it's a quiet gym, had they not experienced pre Covid attendance.

I joined and got the max deal, all club entry, life renewal for 75 a year a long time ago when they were just one club.
A lot of gyms never made it but 24 hour did and expanded and grew. But my membership stayed the same.
They don't have any gyms in Georgia, so I had to join LA Fitness and pay about 200 a year here.
Many people pay 200 to 300 a year now.

If membership drops though and the gyms have more costs, at a minimum hidden annual fees could increase.

Yes, same here in El Paso. I always thought the place was clean. They do seem to have more spray bottles and doing more radom cleaning. I do miss the showers as I don't like going back to my car with leather seats sweating. Now I just try to put a towel over them.

I do go at an off period around 1:30 -2:30 weekdays so it is a off period. I do hope the locker room and showers will open pretty soon as they had just remodeled them.

Unless they close the 24 hour chain down, nothing will ever change for my membership.
Same for my la fitness membership.

I really hope they don't shut down 24HR here. That would totally suck. I've been going there for years.

We've now got VASA and Chuze but they don't get great reviews.

Just want to get back in the gym!!

Yes but if they sell and change the name your contract may be void? If costs now are a lot more and they can only have a limited amount of people, the old business model will not survive.

If they sell and change the name, they will have to honor the current members plans until they expire sine it is basically the same company still. There's not many of us grandfathered in. It's already gone through changes and mergers and I kept the membership. It's been sold a few times already and kept growing. I think there is an out if to shut down the company completely and sell off the assets to another company like equipment, buildings. But if they sell the memberships, the new company would have to honor the membership contracts as they exist. Some have a yearly membership they renew, others have a few years then expire, some have lifetime memberships with a set renewal rate.

They tried to do a split with higher end super clubs and not let people like me in. There was a big stink and the media got a hold of it and 24hour gave in.

So my LA Fitness has already run out of hand sanitizer. Pretty ridiculous that me as a consumer can go out now and buy hand sanitizer almost everywhere yet a large corporation with buying power can't keep a few hand sanitizer stations full for two weeks. I'm also noticing fewer people are cleaning things down after use and generally people have no sense of spacing. When you have 4 benches wide open and you choose the one right next to me, it tells me you're a sad, lonely person dying to talk to someone. I even had some guy ask for a spot yesterday, which I begrudgingly performed for him....never again.
