Elchevere, I'm the original poster here. My stated concern was going to a packed intermediate level Zumba class. I mean seriously packed, with no more than 3 feet in between people. If it were a question of doing the treadmill or elliptical-totally different situation. Going through an airport doesn't concern me because people are not that close. Do you have any opinion on that?

I try to keep my distance wherever possible, but will proceed (or try to) with caution (short of a mask) when in a crowded situation out of my control—be it gym, airport/plane (people DO get close on security lines and on fully packed planes with no more mask requirements), or even crowded NYC subways. I live in a city in a state that was more open than most others with results no worse than quite a few more restrictive cities. I’m triple vax’d and have no preexisting conditions nor have I had Covid (or serious symptoms if I did but did not know I had it), so it is not a big concern for me. Fitness/working out has been a part of my daily life for 40+ years and I see no reason not to continue going to the gym.
The difference between being in a crowded subway VS a crowded gym is that in the gym ppl are breathing very hard and heavy. I don't know about you, but when I workout properly, I'm breathing super heavy and hard with a ton of vapour expelled.
BTW, I suspect that I would be fine if I get Covid... the problem is that I would have to stop working and isolate until I am proven not to be still carrying the virus. I can't afford to do that for 5 - 10 days.
The whole point of going to the gym, or any exercise regime is to get healthier... not get sick.
I don't see how anyone can wear a mask while working out... It feels so uncomfortable. When we were technically required to, I always had mine below my nose..
HodgePodge, so would you go to a crowded Zumba class if you were me??? I did wear a mask last week and it was fine, except that I felt stupid being the only one.

Maybe your lungs/body are damaged? I smoked for 25 years and have no problem wearing a mask in the gym. I am sure my lungs are all gooked up from smoking.
