It sure is! Maybe ten miles, definitely over two hours worth. Or maybe the pedometer isn't accurate?
IMO, if you're going to use walking as your primary form of exercise, you should walk for at least 3 hours in 1 session. Walking is generally 3 to 1 with jogging. So 1 hour of jogging is worth 3 hours of walking.
I'm 62 and speed walk 5,000 to 7500 steps a day, mostly at work and the twice a day walks of my best buddy (my pup).
I feel great and my bloodwork is very good with low cholesterol and low blood pressure.
Yes walking is great for you (I love speed walking). Everyone should do this if they can and also follow a good diet... especially if you want a good quality life as you age.
I plan on still walking over 5000 steps daily on my 100th...
I just read another article talking about how walking is a great way to improve your mental health.
That's what I need, and walking is cheaper than therapy
It does help. When I feel myself sinking, I might at that moment not really feel like walking, but by now I know it will change my mood, so I force myself to do it.
It's not instead of therapy--I've done that, too--but I know now that walking is part of keeping anxiety and depression at bay for me. I do around 2 to 2-1/2 miles at a time.
I love walking, it's a great exercise. I can't walk as long or far as I used to since breaking my knee, but I can walk up to 3 miles, or one hour.
Along with walking I ride my stationary bike and do a variety of body weight exercises. With my back and knee issues at age 74, this does the trick for me. Everyone has to do what they can at their own level. I do encourage anyone to walk, at whatever pace, and if you are able.
I do a lot of walking - and it is beneficial for general health.
Resistance exercising with weights (or body weight) provides functional longevity.
Doing simple tasks at home, like routine yardwork, is also beneficial. I mostly do the dishes by hand... yeah it's easier with the dishwasher, but handling the dishes & small pieces like silverware is great for dexterity and maintaining hand, wrist, and grip strength. Plus - I get my dishes cleaner by hand than the dishwasher.

I always pre-wash my dishes by hand before putting them in the dishwasher. I thought everyone did this

The few times I use the dishwasher, I do prep them some ahead of time.
But if I am going to pre-wash them - then I might as well wash them and be done and save the extra water.
