See, I'm the opposite. I enjoy the deadlift and clean and press much more than the bench press. I haven't tried the clean and jerk yet. I want to give it a go but my left knee is acting up on me now.
You sound like a fellow Crossfitter.
On a side note: Hey yayoi, remember when Ohio State played USC in football? That was fun huh?

I had to google crossfitter and I have to say that it does sound like me. I'm going to have to look into that more.
I'm not really into football. The Buckeye pride refers to the whole state of Ohio not OSU. I might have to change that since I don't want people to think I'm a big OSU fan. Don't get me wrong, I want them to win against an out of state team, but that's the way I feel about all Ohio teams.
Why do so many people use the bench press as a measure of strength? I would think that the clean and jerk is at least a little more accurate in determining overall strength.
The clean and jerk IS more accurate in determining strength. Problem is, the bench press is easy to do and is one of the main exercises that criminal gang bangy macho types on the jailhouse yard prefer.

Common guys.....really? It shouldn't matter how much you can lift or how "strong" you are or how many supplements you pump yourself full of.......I've stressed how personal working out is, who are any of you to judge anyone on anything related to how they take care of their bodies?? Why do you care? We should be here to motivate, inspire and provide valuable information......grow up guys.
Hi Lola! Stepped into the men's locker room, I see........How's the view?????
Yes, you're right that it shouldn't matter how much we can lift, etc.........
I weigh 160 lbs.
210 max flat bench 2 clean reps.
245 max declined bench 2 clean reps.
Maybe 145 on the inclined bench on a good day.
Way way way less with dumbbells, which is my preferred method.
I prefer dumbbells as well. I just like the range of motion better. Plus, I can safely handle them without a spotter.
I haven't done straight bar in quite some time. But I just got 90lb dumbbells on flat bench for 3 sets of 8 the other day. However, I weight 220. I've been working on getting the time down between sets and working more circuit type training rather than do massive weight.
I once spotted a guy years ago doing shoulder press. He had 115lb dumbbells in each hand. He repped out 5-6 clean reps straight overhead. I do about 1/2 the weight on shoulder press as I do on flat bench. The guy was probably 5'10", 230lbs. He was obviously roided up, but I was amazed.
