Browsing some of the popular titles on eBay, I'm quite amazed at how much the values of certain magazines, particularly the Vogues and Elles of the '80s, have increased in price. Of course, if a famous supermodel is on the cover, that will increase the value, along with the fact that the nostalgia factor has caught in to that era. For instance, a Vogue from 1987 with Cindy Crawford in just average used condition (a light water stain and moderate wear) is starting with a $20 opening bid. A Christie Brinkley Cosmopolitan from 1977 already has a But It Now price for $50 (note this excludes shipping).
What I'm disappointed is that most magazines don't have a good, legitimate price guide (TV Guide does and I do collect them). Publishing price guides gathered from eBay and other online auction results could really make collecting a worthwhile fenture. Seriously, a good magazine price guide book/resource needs to be published!
Because of this, I'd say don't throw away your fashion magazines if they are pre-1995; they are really doing well!
Hmmm, I have a whole slew of them (every issue of Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, along with Top Model and some Italian Vogue) at my parents' home from 1989 to the early 1990s. I miss flipping through my old mags!
I have Vogue USA -British - French the oldest one I have is from the 30's
