Like most women, I didn't like pantihose (although garter belts were even worse---yup, I AM that old to remember). But we endured them because they made our legs look good.
Now I hear that they shouldn't be worn, especially "nude" hose---if worn at all, should be something like patterned tights.
But aside from your legs being cold, would they really look good bare, especially in the winter? I guess there's self-tanning stuff...
im guessing but i think they stopped wearing them bek they got fat.
they do look, so much better than the varicose vein treat w/ heels, i see on the street from the 50 plus gals so often
I think you can do what you want. My mom (in her sixties) refuses to go bare-legged and feels it is tacky. So...she chooses to wear black pantyhoes with leather thong sandals. The ugliest look I've ever seen, but if she is comfortable, then who am I to say anything? But how nylons can be comfortable stretched between your toes, I haven't a clue.
Personally, I prefer tights or opaque nylons and I stick with black. I wear them with appropriate shoes, usually a ballet flat or mary-jane-style pump.

Tights. If it's too cold for bare legs, it's cold enough for tights. If I'm wearing dresses/skirts when it's cold out, I'm pairing them with black tights. Or leggings, depending on the outfit. But not pantyhose.
I don't care about looking tan, and nothing looks crappier than "suntan" hose, anyway. Nude hose, not much point. If I want my legs to look like I'm not wearing anything, I'm, uh, not gonna wear anything.
Some women don't like hose because they don't find them comfortable. I never found that to be the case, myself. I don't like them because they're unnecessary, I don't like how they look, and they're flimsy and run, and aren't especially cheap to replace if you can't get more than a couple of wearings out of them without running them.
I don't pay attention to "what they say to wear." I prefer to wear panty hose when I wear a knee length dress and I wear a tone that more closely matches my skin or black with a black dress -- I never thought the idea of wearing panty hose, or regular hose for that matter, was to draw attention to your legs. IMHO it was to provide a more polished look to legs, and I don't feel "completely dressed" if I wear a dress without panty hose. However, if I wear a long dress, I probably won't wear panty hose, especially in warm weather. I do not find panty hose uncomfortable, but they can feel like they're sticking to you in the hot months of summer.
Pantyhose are evil. I like the thigh highs that stay up without garters.

ps when I lived in England, women there never wore hose, even in the winter!
Ewww. I wore stockings with a garter belt during my younger years and when pantyhose hit the market, I was first in line. I wore pantyhose every day to work all the years that I worked. I have very nice legs, (some even said "great") and I still didn't feel comfortable bare-legged. Times change and young women who feel like trend-setters attempt to tell the rest of us what we must do. I, for one, am not buying. I will wear what I want to wear and what makes me happy and the rest of you are welcome to do the same. And when I get dressed to go out in a dress or a skirt, I will wear nude pantyhose, TYVM
I never stopped wearing pantyhose... they make the legs look great!
