actually, wingtips have made a HUGE comeback for yuppie hipsters in cities like Manhattan, Chicago, SF etc. It's part of the whole preppy/vintage Americana trend going on right now. Even J. Crew is selling Alden longwings, as well as Urban with Florsheim's version.

Ah, I see! Sorry for the confusion, then.

I'm certainly not young at 37, but I'm also certainly not an "old guy", either. I also agree with smokingGun that wingtips have made quite a resurgence with the younger hipster type crowd. Further proof that classic designs NEVER really go out of style.

Wingtips are ugly.

Even crocs are less ugly (slightly) than wingtips.

I hate wingtips almost as much as I hate neckties. At least wingtips don't serve as a "better than you" badge like neckties.

Wingtips don't match the sleek & clean lines for men's contemporary fashion IMO..........edit: what type of pants do you wear with them?

Ita about wingtips.....but I love neckties on a man....if they have a bold splash of color with a darker sophisticated suit.

I know.

So let me say it again - they're ugly.

Even uglier than O.J. Simpson's "ugly-ass" Bruno Magli shoes.

Yes, I remember having them in the 1980s when we had to wear a tie and coat to work. I didn't know they still make them.

Yes....you quoted me wrong. I said Ita....not "it's"......

BUT....the part I was NOT ita......was about ties on a man. I love successful men that dress fashionably & that means no wingtips for formal clothing with clean & straight lines IMO....

With rolled jeans a pair of wingtip boots look fashionable on a guy tho........

Every man should have a pair of good wingtip dress shoes. A good pair of wing tips can last for at least 30 years if you take care of them. I have a pair I keep with shoe trees in a cloth shoe bag, so that I always have a pair of polished shoes ready to wear with a suit. When I was wearing a suit every day, I would rotate three pairs. Some of the better shoe companies will actually refurbish these shoes.

Some of the top brands are Allen Edmonds, Alden, and Johnston & Murphy. You could spend up to $695 on a pair of Allen Edmonds wingtips, but you can get a good pair of wingtips for $200.

Wingtips were a longtime shoe of choice for the American business world, until they weren't.. Looking at Ferragamo's and Mezlan, I see they have left out the WT in the latest offerings aimed at the younger businessmen. Bespoke shoes are still the best bet for the well heeled (no pun) professional, but the cost is very high. American men tend to totally wear out their clothing, wearing them much longer than women tend to, and out here in the west, men usually are guilty of wearing terribly worn or inappropriate footwear. AKA, casual..

On the west coast all bets are off when considering men's fashion. Guys in low budget shiny suits with athletic footwear, or jeans and T shirt with a Neiman Marcus six thousand dollar sport coat, down to the Carhartt just got off work look. The last time I remember someone wearing a terribly worn pair of WT's--I was at a wedding and spoke with a drunken attorney wearing a hideous too tight suit, sporting thoroughly trashed vibram soled WT's, nice, funny guy, but my God those shoes..I'd think that one could wear whatever shoes they want, but, there is a hell of a difference between the "I don't care look," and that of "I don't know."
