Back in the 80's when women wore those hideous 2" claws I always wondered how they could even wipe themselves 'back there'. I still simply cannot imagine doing certain things with grizzly-bear hands. But I assume that most of the wearers figured out how to do use them.
I don't press elevator buttons or even walk signal buttons with my finger pads. I use my knuckles and I do that to keep cooties off my fingers. With BIG buttons I use my elbow.
I like mine a little less than a 1/4 of an inch past my finger tips. With all the work I do, I usually end up breaking one and then all of them get cut back to the end of my finger. Right now they need some work, lol. They are all longer than my fingertips but all different lengths.
I keep mine around #1. I've worn them that way forever, so I'm used to them and they don't get in the way of my doing anything.
When one nail breaks, I cut them all back to even them out and aim for a length like #3. But I try not to keep them that short because shorter nails don't look good on me.
Ah, such relative terms, this thread demands pictures!
These nails are long and still pretty, but longer than I could probably stand mine to be as mine break and flake too easily and I am a recovering nail-biter.
These nails are too long to me. Ignoring the particular paint job they've got, this is broaching a point that screams trailer trash to me. There's a very narrow range of nail length between stubby and trashy. Odd that something so miniscule can make such a difference in how you're perceived.
My nails stay closer to this length, maybe a touch longer. Long enough to do things that nails are good for, but short enough to not get in the way.
I fully agree with you. My nails are not very strong so they usually break before they get too long, but when I do grow my nails I usually keep them at the length of #1. I have to be very careful though and take good care of them in order to even get to that length. My nails were that long for quite a while (a few months) but then I got so frustrated that I cut them all short and I don't regret it. I wear contact lenses and I would constantly poke my eye when I tried to get them out, I would accidentally scratch myself or others, dirt would get stuck underneath my nails so I had to clean them all the time, etc. They were not practical at all, I don't know how others do it. I did receive a lot of compliments about them though
I think #1 looks nice and classy but #2 looks very trashy and fake to me. I also don't like most colours of nail polish (esp. the glitter ones), I think natural nails look best. I never wore nail polish even when my nails were long.
IMO, long nails are gross! When I see them all I can think is "Imagine the germs under them". :P
