Nope. Don't agree they are outdated. Sorry. To each their own. If you don't want to wear them more power to you. I do have occasions for suits AND neckties.
I LOVE ties. As previously mentioned, it's an accessory that can help round out an outfit. In addition, it covers up the front buttons on shirts which is an added bonus. Plus, it offers many playful moments with "hands-on" kind of women.
I wear them with any shirt that supports it, whether I'm at work or not.
As someone who wears the same exact thing, day in and day out (I'm military), there are times when I miss wearing a tie. I was in the corporate world for a year and a half and loved wearing a suit and tie everyday. The ability to mix and match with different shirts and three suits or so, gave me a ton of options.
Yeah, it could be uncomfortable at times especially in hot weather, but I felt/feel damned handsome wearing one
Aside from the considerable discomfort factor, what I hate about neckties is that they act as some kind of social "better than" badge, in that the guy wearing the necktie is somehow considered to be more competent, more knowledgeable, more proper, or in some way just "better" than the guy who is not wearing a tie.
I noticed I just had a rep from this thread. Honestly, I think I was just going through an anti-tie phase at the time. I'm kind of a "phase" guy. People close to me have learned not to take what I say as a true reflection of my long term opinions.
I don't have to wear them on a daily basis but I do feel more dressed up when wearing them. I DO agree that when you are in FL or TX or someplace with high heat and humidity, they are awful. Having to walk around outside is torture. Winter, not so much
Personally, I've always thought they are silly looking and strangulating.
Yes, strangulating. I developed a hatred for anything around my throat.
I also developed a dislike for dressing up, not only because of the sheer discomfort, but because it made me look stupid…..
I couldn't wait to get out of those monkey suits.
