If I gave a woman a hand made wallet for Christmas would she have any use for it? I have something in mind that fits her style but I'm not sure if she would actually use it in her purse, I know she does not use one in her pocket.

A lot of women use wallets but the style of the wallet and the woman's taste is what needs to be considered.
If she does not use it in her handbag she may well use it elsewhere at home.
I have seperate checkbooks in different wallets at home because I do not carry my checkbooks with me but I want them to be contained properly.

It seems women's wallets are big, to be kept in a handbag, rather than men's wallets which go in their pants pocket.

Yes. But wallet shopping is very very difficult. It took me about 5 years to find a replacement to my favorite wallet. Some people like thin, some people like pocketable, some people want to hold 15 cards, other people go minimalist.

I would never buy a wallet for someone. to many variables for happiness.

I use small "wristlets", so I can carry them instead of a purse or in my purse like a wallet.

I don't usually find it convenient to carry bulky purses or satchels, but I also don't want to have to carry a wallet in my pocket like a dude (not to mention that I often don't have a pocket to put a wallet in), so I've gone the wristlet route. The one I have now doubles as a phone case, and has a few slide pockets for ID/debit card, and one for a small amount of cash If I do have occasion to carry a bigger bag, I can toss it inside like a wallet.

Some women consider purses, handbags, satchels, and wallets to be very personal stylistic choices, and would balk at one being selected for them, but my tastes aren't that particular, and think one would be a fine gift. I'm betting I'm in the minority, though. I'm just not that particular about accessories.

I agree!

My wallet is smaller than my husband's, but it holds exactly what I want it to hold.
The chance that someone would make one to meet my needs would be very, very slim.

My dad is also very particular about wallets. Year after year my dad would ask for a wallet and inevitably we would fail miserably. Wrong color, wrong shape, wrong number of pockets. And think about how few variations there are for men's wallets! :P
