I don't wear black because it drains the color from my face, and isn't very flattering. I'd rather use colors to highlight and hide, or create visual contrast.
I can usually get by with any color. While I have certain favorites (Pink, Blue, Purple, Black, Grey), I do try to look for certain colors I don't have much of, but it seems to work out that the styles I like are usually the same colors.
I mainly stick to lighter colours because everyone tells me I look good with them. I do buy darker colours, but the lighter ones dominate my wardrobe. Apparently dark makes me look kind of tired. I don't know what that means, but if I wear black it's apparent to people I guess. I get the most compliments when I wear pink.

I'd be curious to know if you have a warm skin tone and what your hair and eye colors are.
Does anyone remember the 1980's seasonal colors fad (where you were a winter, summer, fall or spring?)
I'm old enough to remember that and I even paid for a consultation, LOL. But it wasn't until then that I realised I was a "winter" and cool colors really made me feel and look better. Ever since then I have shopped accordingly.
Love black, avoid white because of the afore-mentioned stain thing. And brown or beige is just so blah, at least for pasty white-people complexions.

I have brown hair and brown eyes, not really sure what warm skin tone is. But I'm white, and right now kind of pale because it's winter and I don't go out much at the moment. In the summer I'm kind of tanned.

Look at your wrist. What color does it look. Or what color are your veins. Cool people have blue veins and reddish coloring underneath. Warm people tend to have greener veins and yellow or golden undertones. The underside of the wrist is the easiest place to tell for pretty much all skin tones.

It's bluish, so I guess I am cool.
