And we'll all remember that the next time we go for luncheon at Downton Abbey. In the real world however...

People can think whatever they want, it doesn't make it true.

And if people are going to judge me based on wearing hats or anything else, you know what they can do? They can go F themselves

Lol! This is hysterical! Instead of people saying "I had no idea that wearing a hat at the dinner table is indicative of poor etiquette! It's certainly something to think about!", we have people defending their boorish and loutish behaviour.
Again...I don't care what you do. Wear a hat, blow your nose, belch and holler into your cell phone. It's no skin off my nose. Just know that it's rude. I get that you don't care if you come off as ill-mannered. I really and truly get that. That's entirely on you. None of my business. Do whatever you want.

Earth to you darlin', not everybody thinks exactly like you do. The world would be all the worse if they did. The only thing boorish and loutish here is your manner.

You obviously do care! You are the one who bangs on about it. Nobody else does.

So someone wearing a hat must do all those other things ey? Sure Not much of a stereotyper eh kid? Clear off and grow up.

Maybe its OK now, but I didn't get the memo.

A few years ago I invited one of my clients to a formal dinner at my house, my wife is a great cook. It was a party of 8 and one of the guys wore a baseball cap, backwards, naturally. What an assclown. As my late Mother used to say, "Some people just don't know how to act!"

What's funny is I was brought up to have very good manners at the table. My Dad was especially critical about it. Sit up straight, good posture, no elbows on the table. Use knife and fork correctly; fork in the left hand ALWAYS, and knife in the right hand. We think it's rude to use your fork in the right hand. No talking while eating. No opening mouth while chewing. No loud noises while eating. I especially hate that. We don't care if a hat is on though. So different cultures, different rules. I am very polite in my own country, and that's all that matters.

I'm not a hat person. I never wear them. Just don't like em. That said, I couldn't care less if someone wears a hat inside. Chances are I wouldn't even notice. This is a thing?
