Bare midriffs are RARELY appropriate in the workplace....maybe in a family-run ice cream shop?! Oh, lifeguarding? But yeah, in any kind of office situation, definitely no. A few outdoor jobs maybe but come on - is it so hard to put on a t-shirt?
Where I worked was so strict that a little top over a bodysuit or blouse was frowned upon. The only exceptions were the blousy big shirts with tiny vests look.... because they showed NOTHING.
yeah -- I'm a prude. My father once was very upset with me because I greeted a boyfriend fully dressed, but wearing my little kimono robe, because I hadn't finished my makeup, and I didn't want to get powder on my clothes.
And no matter how many times I said but Dad, I was fully dressed -- it didn't matter, greeting a boyfriend in a robe was WRONG.
No bare midriffs or short shorts should be permitted in a corporate environment. Its OK for a personal trainer or someone participating in sports as a profession to wear.
I'm a bit surprised too. The midriffs I've seen are about 1 to 2 inches above the belly button, or shirts that cut off to the sides exposing the love handles (waist area). And, when the girls go to tie their hair up, they arch their back up in a way exposing another 3-4 inches of skin. Really bizarre..

I don't understand why people would think that is appropriate for work. Yes, exposed midriff and sides are everywhere.... that doesn't automatically translate to work wear. Sheesh.
Makes me question the work ethics, professionalism, attitudes and behaviors promoted and allowed.
I'm sure this is not an advertent quid-pro quo, but allowing employees to wear exposing midriffs seems a little off, and for employees to think they can bares kin as a fashion statement is bizarre.
Only time it's allowed is if you're Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman......or a stripper. Possibly working in a bar....but you could get caught on something or give people the wrong idea. Definitely not in a corporate environment!
Meh. A tempest in a teapot. I wouldn't mind it. Women have such cute midriffs--that nice, soft tummy and those cute curvy hips. I'd like to see more of that. It would brighten up my day. Work sucks; why can't we dress in a manner that is both comfortable and makes the opposite gender happy?
