There is a lot of legitimate art, paintings, sculpture, etc. that no sane person would hang on their wall or use to decorate their entryway, but that does not mean it is not something that art afficianados would want to view in some context.
Avant garde fashion is the same thing. It is not meant to be worn as a functional garment, it is meant to provoke questions and thought just like any other high art.
I am not even into fashion beyond looking decent and I can get that.
it's just SOMETHING DIFFERENT.... a sensibility you or i perhaps do not understand or like, but that is someone's take on an avant garde style, it's a creative mind that has a devoted life of expression. sure i don't get it, i dress totally vintage/boho but i can see why some young people will take some of those elements and incorporate them into a vibe they hear, they want to present as a statement of difference set apart from the rest of us mainstream wearers of khaki pants and a cotton shirt..... there are clothing stores all over America who cater to a certain mindset.
well. this was just another expression of a mindset. and i can see this designer showing up on Project Runway next season. i love a creative mind who can boldly sail on the difficult seas of style and still be the captain of his soul.

Oh, I get it but I just think it's a ridiculous waste of energy, money and time. Thank goodness it's someone else's energy, money and time so no worries. I wish them all the best but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion about it. I'm sure they'd find my own personal wardrobe to be quite mundane but it works for me.
I love art, decorating, fashion, etc. But that doesn't mean I like or appreciate every effort by every designer. And that's OK too.
I don't have a real Halloween costume, but I typically wear a pink interlock polo shirt and wave a pink fairy glow wand from the dollar store. That is essentially my male pink fairy outfit. This Halloween I might pair it with some pink Oxford shorts.
Earth to Pink, Earth to Pink.
Hello, Pink?
You there?
Regarding the OP: if it's weird enough, it MUST be art. -_-
Oh good grief, not all art is good and not everyone likes all of what some people define as art. And just because someone doesn't like a particular style, or doesn't think a particular designer is appealing, doesn't mean that they are ignorant or that they lack some sort of artistic sense of style.
Cue all the people who don't understand what avant garde couture is.
