Anything that touches the skin-always.

Coats and jackets, probably not that much

I was told by several doctors of different specialties to always wash new clothing. A lot of them are made with formaldehyde.

If they come in plastic from a factory, no. Only machines touch synthetic garments unless they are wool or cotton. Then, it's your choice to wash or wear.

It's the fabric dyes that are problematic.

All fabrics, not just clothing, are treated with "sizing" and thus should be laundered before first usage. There are various types of sizing but as a general rule just about every new fabric item should be washed to remove the stuff; here's one example for bath towels.

anything linen, be it clothes, sheets, wash rags, underwear, dish / bath towels, as soon as I cut the tags off of them, I put them in the hamper.

I know so many chemicals are sprayed on then, tons of people have touched them, they are shipped from where ever, etc etc etc.

anything washable, goes right into the hamper, plus, I hate the stiffness of new clothes anyway, so id wash them regardless.

I do wash anything new before I wear it. My understanding is there are some 'treatment' products on newly manufactured items, often something I can smell, so in the washer it goes! And for unwrapped items from a store, even though I'm not a germaphobe, I'd rather wash the item after it's been handled by God-knows-how-many-people.

^^ what Nightcrawler said^^ LOL

I usually wash new things before wearing. Not always, but usually.

Speaking of people in stores handling clothing. My husband and daughter were Christmas shopping this past year, went to the mall. Passing through Dillards, there were two salespeople talking to each other. As my husband and daughter walked past, one of them sneezed, loudly and with much drama. As she sneezed, she picked up a shirt or something off of the table in front of her, sneezed into it, wiped her nose and face with it, and PUT IT BACK ON THE TABLE!

Husband called her out on it, she was very snotty and sarcastically said “Merry Christmas”. Husband reported her. Hopefully she got fired, but probably not.

So disgusting.
