I actually think mid thigh length shorts on a guy is fine, but lower than the knee and you might as well wear long pants. I agree, the baggy look has to go.

This is not good, don't look good to me, my wife may like to see that in the privacy of our home. Out in town...No! I'm wearing shorts more now but the shortest I like is maybe about 4 inches above the knee I'm a shorts at the knee just above the knee guy.
I agree with the mid thigh statement, "no shorts at the mid thigh except like sports activities...out in town shopping, no!
The rule ought to be - nice butt, nice legs, no junk hanging out, ok.
Folks whose legs are sticks and who have no butt at all should have more self-pride than to look like an overwrapped stick. Folks who (like me!) have a roll hanging out here, cellulite over there, and a rear end that looks like the threads are SCREAMING and holding hands to keep from coming apart at the stitching - please, have the self respect and decency to cover up.
I like to see well-muscled men in spandex bike shorts (yummers) as well as women, but the whole idea that spandex is for the overweight appalls me. Seeing anyone's junk (including DH's!) in public is just bragging - and all too often they don't have anything to brag about, trust me. Why would ANYONE wear anything that makes them look like an overstuffed sausage about to pop, or like the wind could just blow off their clothes at any minute, puzzles me. Why do people without ankles or delineated calf muscles, or with knees with rolls of fat hanging over them, insist on wearing the shortest shorts? Go home and get on the Bowflex, please.

Ok, all joking aside - When I was about 16 I was with a friend at her apartment pool, and there was this guy with short shorts (something between shorts and a speedo) jumping off the diving board and splitting his legs in mid air........... When he did it his "junk" would pop out!!! I wonder if he ever figured out why everyone suddenly moved to the other side of the pool??
I remember when men's shorts were shorter, there was still plenty of coverage in the gender specific area. IMHO, any shorts that reveal those areas on either gender are inappropriate for wear out in public.
