Did they give you any indication as to what sales rates they may have?

No, they didn't. Should I be concerned? Asarga charges commission, but only 15% and Common Grounds none. I showed in these types of venues with less traffic in Dallas about 10 years in ago and my art did pretty well. It seems a good place to start regardless with all of the exposure and not having any local connections yet.

Blue Moon Gallery in Hot Springs said they weren't taking new artists, Art Expo, I'll have to work through a submission process, and I'll need to scope out the other galleries when I come visit.

I don't think you need to be concerned. I was asking for my own personal bit of knowledge. I'm beginning to look into venues for my own work and just wondered just how brisk sales could be at venues like that compared to a "real" gallery.

There are just so many variables, but thriving sales are rare to come by for most early career artists such as myself.

In some towns, such as where I'm living now, art galleries receive very little traffic so exposure can be limited. On the other hand, venues like Common Grounds and Arsaga's provide a lively social atmosphere to a trendy, even arty, crowd who may love art but never set foot in galleries.

Also, some art lends itself to a lively atmosphere with music and socializing whereas other art is better suited for galleries.

I don't know the amount of traffic Fayetteville art galleries receive to make a valid comparison in this case though. The best I can hope for is that I'll get some good exposure while getting to know the area, etc. and of course selling a couple paintings would be very nice.
