I've been trying to search the net to get the feel for the best contemporary art galleries in Fayetteville. So far the ArtExpo is the only one I've found with a website. Looks like a pretty good place to start but I was hoping for some insider info. Any galleries in particular where funky abstract cityscape and such would be a good fit?

Thanks for any insights.

Janet

DDP gallery, Enigma, Blue Bonnet, and J gallery are a few that I can think of off the top of my head. I'm not sure exactly what type of art they have or show though. Walton Arts will have shows every once in awhile as well. The university also has a gallery but I would think it's for students only.

If I remember correctly, Alice Walton (Walmart heiress) is breaking ground on the Crystal Bridges museum of art. It is supposedly going to be a world-class museum.

i am not sure of the art galleries, but i do know that some restaurants such as Common Grounds on Dickson have paintings on their walls from local artist for sale. i have heard of the Walton art center having showings. Fayetteville is definately artist friendly so i am sure you will be able to find something.

Enigma is more centered around an eclectic mix of art glass, pottery, and woodwork.

Arsaga's and Iron Horse also have displays of local artists' work for sale. From the sounds of the subject matter, Arsaga's might be a good fit. Both Arsaga's and Common Ground get good traffic, not sure what Iron Horse gets anymore now that Benchmark has moved. A good thing about hanging in coffee shops is they may not take as big a commission!

Great. This board is amazing. I'm so impressed.

I think the restaurants is a great idea and I find them sometimes more artist friendly than art galleries.

Any jazz clubs or along those lines that show art in non-smoking environment. Thanks for the tips and reassurance. I'm excited about moving and it feels good to do some groundwork first.

None of which I'm aware. However, Fayetteville is now a non-smoking city in public establishments, that includes all bars and dives. I *think* there's a piano bar somewhere now.

Actually you can still smoke in bars if liquor sales exceed food sales which is most every bar. There is a piano bar on Dickson in the Three Sisters building but there is definitely smoking there.

Great News. I got my art scheduled to hang at Common Grounds Jan-March and on the list at Arsaga's to exhibit later next year. Yooohoo... I love Fayetteville already!
