Groundbreaking was originally supposed to take place in spring 2008, now it is approaching spring 2009 and they are still wanting funds. I believe the whole deal will tank and people will lose their money.

Yep, I agree pretty much with what you said. However, I'm sure there are many local special interests around there that want to see it happen. But on another note, people are'nt going out and spending money like they did in the past. Even if it was already built and functional, does anyone actually believe they would be in possitive financial plus territory right now in the present economic crisis ??? Most likely they'd be looking for a piece of the bailout pie like many other major business giants just to keep themselves afloat.

I had my doubts about that theme park idea in Williams when I first heard about it. I know Williams is desperate to create a tourist anchor to capture some revenue from the visitors going to/from Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon, but the timing was just really bad. Plenty of private business schemes between local town governments and private investors are/have tanked due to the economic/housing morass. Local townships will have to make the tough cuts in their budgets because gambling houses/fun parks/new business tax revenue has dried up along with the middle-class spending for things like restaurant outings three times a week, and a new vehicle every four years. Forced thriftiness is to 2009 what willful extravagance was to 2004.

Speaking of funds, did anyone hear anything about that fundraiser that was mentioned a while back ???
I don't think in this climate of bank failures and tourist failure, something like this is going to take off anytime soon.
It's just interesting how quiet all of the sudden it became here.

This thread reminds me of the Theme Park they were going to build in Grayling (Michigan) oh they had the plans, they had the land picked out, they had the city and county approval. But they had NO MONEY. They talked and talked, got some hopes up as well as peoples panties in a bunch. But when it was all said and done the funding fell through. Of they still have hope of making it happen but it's been in the works for a good 3 or 4 years now and they are no closer today than 4 years ago.

Hadn't been to Williams in awhile, but had the opportunity to spend a couple of night there last week. So I thought I would ask around, figured who better to ask, so I asked the local barkeep about the amusement park.
