A lot of them ended up here not from agriculture but because they were needed when the construction industry was flush, whether from a general housing boom or rebuilding after a hurricane. The Mexican population in my area pretty much quadrupled after Hurricane Ivan hit, (they often had better construction trades skills than the local labor pool) and while plenty of them moved on for Katrina rebuilding down I-10, others decided to stay and move their families over here.

As for politics, it actually can take a while to break into the system down here unless you're willing to drop Rick Scott money and buy your way in. The Mexicans will be major players, but not overnight, and unlike Texas and points west, the Hispanic population here is probably always going to be more Caribbean than anything else.

I live in Sarasota/Bradenton area. Tons of Mexicanos here. The little city of Palmetto to the north of Bradenton, the whole downtown is Mexican businesses. Even when I lived in the small town of Dade City to the north of Tampa, there was a large percentage of Mexicans. The Tampa Bay area in general has a lot of Latinos: Cuban, Spanish, Puerto Rican, Columbian, Mexican etc. I don't think Mexicans will "take over" any time soon, but I think anywhere from Central Florida to South Florida you will find a good percentage.

In Tampa you see all types of Latinos right? In Downtown or walking the street?? Hopefully its not a homogeneous city with only one latino group being dominant. I do like diversity among latinos in cities though.

Like I said, the Latinos in Tampa are diversified - many groups represented.

And what makes you think that won't happen? Just look at NY. Mexicans will surpass Dominicans in NYC in a few years and by 2022 is estimated it will surpass PR.

And what changes will the Mexicans make when they rule the world ? Or better yet the U.S. ? Take Texas back as part of Mexico ? Open the southern U.S. border without restrictions so all Mexicans can move to the States ? Never mind, the southern border is already open ...
