I am up in northern Washington now. I have not seen any fireflies in years. I just wondered if Florida has them?
Thanks

We lived in Dade City for 10 years, (35 mi. NE of Tampa) and we had them every summer, although some summers there were more than others. They like leaf litter, and marshy wooded areas. I am now in Lakeland and haven't seen any, but we live in the city rather than the country.

We get them here in Miami, so other parts of Florida probably get them too.

Fireflies have similar habits compared to mosquito's. When they start spraying... it kills more then just mosquitos.

I still get "some"...

Unless you have forested or open undisturbed dry land, you will not have them. They can be found around some parks in Miami-Dade county and they are present in my parents yard, 1/2 of which is natural vegetation with no lawn.

I lived in Miami-Dade area for over 40 years and don't recall ever seeing any firefllies. Then again, I didn't go out much after the sun went down cuz the mosquiotoes would eat me alive !

They are around mostly in wooded or field areas you won`t see them around the city or over developed areas.
