Nice place to vacation but not to live. We have been here 3 and 1/2 years and are heading back as soon as the condo sells to MA/NH. We took a huge pay cut here ($30,000/year) and have yet to find good jobs. We have very good work experience/degrees but it is a service industry here. Also offered several jobs back north! We miss the history, culture, good mass transit and better built homes up north. We will still visit when it gets cold though

You couldn't pay me enough to move back to New Jersey.

We do pretty well here, 6 figure income and it's all done via the internet and telephone. So we could be anywhere. We're here.

Now once upon a time I DID get homesick and moved to NYC. Rented a 2,000 sq ft loft in Soho. After 6 months of that I moved back to Ft Lauderdale and it was like being reborn.

I still love to go to NYC a couple times a year but the best part is leaving and coming home to Fla.

If you are thinking about moving back to the Northeast just look at our current forecast for the next 7 days...

Now what would you rather deal with? That? Or this?

Maine has been getting hammered this year. Every other car here has a ME tag, and I don't blame them one bit. I'm sure northern people get sick of the cold and crappy weather.

it can go both ways, I moved from Fla to the NE in June of last year and I'm moving back to Fla in 6 weeks. Its all preferance to what each wants.. I'll tell you this though living is WAYYYYY cheaper in Fla than the NE.. You're taxed to death up here, heating costs are unreal, car inspections, did I mention taxes? 8% food and beverage tax's. Then you have all the extra costs of winter for your car, your house, yourself! It all depends on what town you choose in Fla also.
I prefer Naples, I'm told its expensive but since I've lived there my whole life costs are normal to me but Northern Fla is a great place to try out esp since your young try the bigger cities like Tampa, orlando and the such..

Don't let people sway you to not make a move. I went against what everyone said and moved up north.. YES they were true in my instance about the cold, and the costs but you know what I had to learn for myself and I always would of had that "what if" fact over my head. Live and Learn my friend.

Everyone I know in Florida says it is way more expensive than where they moved from. They also all make a lot less money here. People from NY, MA, CA (LA area!), CT, NJ, CO, LA, IL, etc.. My parents paid $3,000/year taxes on a bigger home in Queens, New York. They pay over $7,000/year in taxes here. Friends (both lawyers) struggle near Clearwater. Their insurance is crazy and guess where they are moving-Hawaii! It will be cheaper for them to rent in Hawaii! Our good friends from CA say the groceries and utilities are way more expensive here. We find the groceries, electric, taxes and clothing more expensive here than in MA/NH. Houses are all built like crap. Nothing like the homes up north-tons of upkeep and there is no snow here! FL is not cheaper for us or any of our friends. The only ones we know that are doing ok work out of state! I work for a friend in NJ (all online as well.)

I am sorry but weather is not everything. We made so much more up north we were able to vacation several times a year in the colder winter months. We would go on a cruise, to Disney or to the Caribbean. Cant afford to do that here

Depends on why you are leaving.

If one is moving completely due to weather, well, I'm not even going to try to go down that route. Common sense might help there.

Also depends on what you are looking for, what you want, if you are leaving family, if you are close the family you are leaving...the list can go on & on.

If you think the move is best for YOU, go for it & good luck.

It's great we live in a country where we can ***** about snow & heat & move if we don't like it. Worse places to live in this world. We are the lucky ones.

I also l like how both the 7-day forecasts keep updating. We have a bonus day today and it's 50 right now which is way above normal but I will take it!! Maybe if we get warmer than they expected (it was only supposed to be near 40 today) then we will get rain instead of that mixed ice garbage.
