I saw more snakes in my backyard the first year I lived here than I've seen all my life living elsewhere. I'm told if their eyes have a slit that it would likely be venomous - as if I'm going to get that close to check. Seeing gators at the local park and not behind a fence was interesting (not that big). Had to stop to let peacocks with their big tails crossing the street holding up a bunch of cars. Heron and wood stork in my back yard almost daily.

There have been coyotes sightings reported near me. Haven't seen one yet. We live close to the Savannas and expect there is a ton of wildlife in there.

We haven't heard them howl but we have heard them when we've been at the Mother in laws house. She lives farther from the Savannas.

Palmetto dogs. Cute little things, not much larger than the palm of your hand. I understand that some other folks call them palmetto bugs, and think that they are large and disgusting, especially when flying in one's face.

Each to his own.

My sister who has lived in the Seattle area for many years still misses the fireflies.

We don't seem to have fireflies on the East coast. In 40 years I think I have only seen them a few times here

I remember seeing them in the northeast on summer nights a few decades ago when I was a kid, but then they disappeared. We called the lightning bugs when we were kids.
