Oh no! Take care of yourself SanyBelle. Lots of liquids and rest.

I’ve yet to get my 4th shot; been putting it off hoping they’ll combine a more effective Omicron one with the flu shot in the fall. Sigh…darn you, COVID.

Yup.
And who HONESTLY has worn a FRESH MASK EVERY TIME?
Covid theatre at it's best!

Everyone will have been exposed very soon... and I'm betting that's how this thing peters out.

P.S. Jabbed + boosted here.. recovered (sniffles and a cough) in 10 days.
No more shots for me.

Default N95 masks reduce risk of infection in real world by 83 percent

There are many posts in this thread demonstrating the effectiveness of mask wearing. Additionally, countries with high rates of mask wearing, such as Japan, have fared much, much better than the U.S. during the pandemic.

Here's a recent study on the effectiveness of masks.

<<Statistical analysis showed that the odds of infection were about half for people who reported wearing a mask in public compared with people who didn’t. (Results of this study are reported in terms of “odds ratios” which are related to relative risk, but not quite the same thing.) For people who wore masks “all of the time” (instead of “some of the time” or “most of the time”) the estimated effect was even more significant.

A second part of the study sought to differentiate between cloth masks, surgical masks, and N95/KN95 respirators. Not unexpectedly, N95/KN95s were found to reduce the odds of infection compared with people who didn’t wear any mask. To me, the surprising thing is how effective they were, reducing the relative odds by 83%.>>

Anti-science, Big Lie propaganda about mask wearing, just as the anti-vax baloney common in this forum, cost lives, and elevate rates of hospitalization and the incidence of long COVID.

Additionally, by raising community spread, the absence of mask wearing impacts everyone, especially the unvaccinated. Thankfully, children now are eligible for vaccination, even though the medically bizarre DeSantis administration is attempting to discourage child vaccination in Florida.

Blatant ignorance or deceit:

<<“I would say we are affirmatively against the COVID vaccine for young kids,” he said during a press conference. “These are the people who have zero risk of getting anything.”>>

Not surprisingly, the American Academy of Pediatrics in it 6/30/22 report (see Figure 4) shows that Florida has an above average rate of cumulative COVID cases per 100,000; the national average is 18,293 (children don't get COVID???). The appendix to the report showed that children accounted for 3.2 percent of hospitalizations. Did DeSantis miss when Florida pediatric hospitals were overwhelmed by COVID patients???

Click on cases and admissions here in order to see the COVID surge now impacting Florida. Unfortunately, Florida's COVID statistical reporting apparently is insufficient to calculate infection rate, as in the other states, but obviously the rate is rising.

Hopefully, as you're vaccinated, your infection will be mild with no long-term consequences.

BOL!!!

Sigh. I think it's time to stop organizing our lives against what amounts to a cold.

Quoting from the Forbes article that WRNative posted:

“There are some weaknesses with the study. The biggest one is that the number of participants in the study was just too small to make very precise estimates of effectiveness. So, for instance, although the best estimate of risk reduction due to wearing an N95/KN95 is 0.17, the confidence interval ranges all the way from 0.05 to 0.64. For this reason, statistical tests seeking to make fine-grained distinctions between the effectiveness of different masks types or usage patterns were inconclusive.”

Convincing evidence? Not really.

As for Florida, I just looked up California. Same results. Do we blame Newsome too?

What a moronic statement. Colds don't kill a million Americans in a few years, leaving many families without breadwinners and mentors. Colds don't leave several million more Americans with lingering health deficiencies, diminishing their productivity and even ability to work. Colds don't disrupt and impair the medical system, causing many doctors and nurses to leave their professions. Colds don't diminish the level of educational attainment.

Anybody who reads through this forum from the beginning can quickly establish those promoting the Big Lie rant that COVID is not a serious medical infection.
