Would you support city data charging a $1,000 fee per stupid thread started?

Yep, and as a kid I would go there (CA) and walk through the parking lot and ask people leaving of they had any tickets I could have. Always got a lot of different ones and admission was $1.00 then.

I am still puzzled why people pay that kind of money for what they are getting out of Disney.
First time I went to Disney as a child was late 80s-early 90s. I remember few things from that trip - hot (very, insane, super HOT), crowds and everything was very expensive. I remember thinking how much I will need to save my allowance money in order to buy something I like in the gift shop and my mind was blown away...

When as a teenager - remember how hot and crowdy it was.

Went with my kids, well, because every kid should visit Disney. We did it as a vacation - multiple days and different parks. It was insane again. Hot, busy, expensive. When it was my youngest turn and we went last time, I said never ever again. In fact, I need to be paid to go there. Many attractions were out of service including these with super long lines... you spent 45 minutes in line only to be told attraction is down for indefinite time. When you are coming back with fast passes like is even longer.... At least two attractions were going down while we were riding it, lights were turning on and everything looked pretty crappy, I would say the easiest way to kill the magic haha... Many attractions are lacking colors as these seemed to be lacking simple maintenance. Crowds were out of this world... Average wait time was 120 minutes. To take a picture with characters from Toy Story was 180 minutes wait. Lunch time was bad too - not too many healthy options, but expensive and hardly any room to seat - I remember strolling around with the tray full of food with absolutely no room to seat and eat this food.
I seriously don't understand the magic and why people are spending that kind of money at this place.

By the way, when Covid entered our lives, Disney pulled the trigger and treated their employees poorly. It was the worse treatment by employer I've seen...

As a Florida resident I guess I need to feel happy tourists are coming to Florida to leave their money at Disney...

Disney creates a fantasy and brings it to life. For a kid that can be, well, magical. Coming from NY my first time to WDW was a highlight of my childhood; it was all wrapped up in Florida sunshine and warmth and the adventure of a vacation far from home.

I regret that today it is the epitome of commercialism and comes at a cost many just can’t afford. But a part of me is still amazed at what Disney can do, and how well they do it, and I wouldn’t want to see them fail.

We hire a planner. I wouldn’t go without her itinerary.

We took our kids once around 2007 or so. Great timing as our school district had just started "year round schooling" with an extra week long break in the fall that didn't match any normal school vacation so the crowds were less and it wasn't hot. At the time it didn't even feel that expensive; family room in the cheapest priced Disney hotel, multi day pass with park hopping privileges, and a simple meal plan. It wasn't cheap but as a one off vacation it was good. Of course none of us were or are Disney fanatics. No one wanted character visits or stuff like that.

My favorite memory was taking my kids on Space Mountain four straight times because there was no line and we could just run around and get back on! We did the same thing with the Expedition Everest ride also. Even with good planning that seems like it would be impossible now.

Oh believe be, our days were planned. I knew where to go and in what order. However, attractions are going down in the middle of the day which can screw up all your plans. Eating is another issue no matter what time you are trying to take lunch - early or late, it doesn't matter, I feel like it's due to the lack of crowd control. I've been at Magic Kingdom once when park entrance was closed a park hit it's full occupancy. We were able to get in as we had reservation. I will try to find pictures from that day and post it here. There were barely any room, people were walking shoulder to shoulder within the park. Planning can do only so much unfortunately.

I have very similar memories of Busch Gardens in Tampa as I spent many-many days in that park as a child, both during peak and off-peak season. We used to ride non-stop because there were no lines during off-peak days. It was amazing, the best childhood memories for me.

To be fair I wasn't spoiled as I had nothing to compare these parks to and my very first park I ever went to was Cypress Gardens (where Legoland is now). I have good memories of that park too, but Disney - no, no and no.

I may go to Disney World one time when I am visiting a FL relative. But once will be it. To costly.

One time to learn about it and enjoy what I can, OK, but why waste money on it a second time.

I went to the CA Disneyland more time's than I can count, but even there the prices is now stupid, so not likely to go again.

One day won't be enough to really experience it though. The best way to really see what Disney World is all about is to spend a solid 4 days there, preferably at an on-site resort.
