Taking your chances and relying on a FEMA bailout later isn’t a terrible option.

Ideally, you'd be forced out of owning your home. Some corporation will buy it in cash, then rent it back to you for an amount equal to double your original monthly mortgage payment.

I haven't been able to find any information to verify this is true, but I recall people reporting they took a FEMA grant to repair/rebuild their houses on Staten Island after TS Sandy, and being required to take on and maintain in perpetuity FEMA flood insurance on those properties. If they dropped the flood insurance later they had to repay the grant. Don't know if this is indeed the case but it makes sense to me that the guv'mint would make that requirement as a contingency for the grant.

The next time Florida gets a cane, someone should poll the citizens of the other 49 states to ask whether those citizens want to pay (in the way of federal money) for us to live in Florida. Pay to rebuild Florida over and over and over.

Somehow I think the poll would be drastically skewed towards HELL NO.

it's not just Florida.....insurance companies are pulling out of states all over

”AAA is looking for any and all reasons to cancel their policies. ”

”In March, State Farm announced it would no longer insure houses in California, saying that the risk from wildfires was too great and the cost of rebuilding too high.”

”State Farm said it 'made this decision due to historic increases in construction costs outpacing inflation, rapidly growing catastrophe exposure, and a challenging reinsurance market.'”

”In its statement, State Farm said it takes 'seriously our responsibility to manage risk.'”

And my sister who lives on the Big Island in Hawaii just got notice that her insurance company was not renewing homeowner's policies there. She's having difficulties finding a new insurance policy, most companies won't write policies there. The one ( apparently there is just one willing to insure their house) has informed her new policy will not cover windstorm damage ( though they're unlikely to get hurricanes there as they're shielded more or less by the mountains) and the coverage will be very expensive.

Sure, and until that happens ( my fervent hope it's when hell freezes over), there's nothing right about FL.

And there's very little left in Florida (especially the government).
