You're right.

But let's remember Katrina was flood deaths from a broken levy. The hurricane "itself" was not so much the culprit as man's stupidity.

We've learned a LOT of lessons since Andrew, and those that take the 1-2 week WARNINGS you get with a hurricane usually fare well.

No, really. It was a broken levy in a city that didn't prepare. If the levy had been up to code, the way it was supposed to be, what would be the death total?

And I am sure most of these blizzard deaths were mans stupidity too of driving around in it and getting into an accident, as usual. Not the snows fault...

All I'm saying is that ONE THOUSAND hurricane deaths is not normal by any stretch. People in New Orleans had a long time to realize a monster storm was heading their way, and the governing authorities of the town were asleep at the wheel.

It's Cuba and Haiti for god's sake. I KNOW you're not trying to compare the hurricane preparedness, government response, and building quality and codes in FLORIDA to HAITI.

I'm sure if blizzards could make it to Haiti a lot of people would freeze to death there too!

We have humidity every year, sure. But our early part of the summer had more rain than usual and that brings the humidity level up.

I DON'T CARE where it hits, you said blizzards kill more than hurricanes, that is MY point man.... And you contradicted yourself with the government preparedness and response, because you yourself said the same about the levees in New Orleans, bad planning and poor government preparedness.....????? I'm a bit confused by your arguement now.

All in all Heat and humidity do suck, so does freezing cold, and I am done with this pissing match. On to better topics now. Have a great day!

Maybe in Haiti but Cuba probably has incredibly few deaths due to Hurricanes for a country that gets hit so often. There the government tells you to leave and you have to leave the area getting hit.
