Winter Haven is a beautiful little town, it was established as a winter resort way back in the day. People who bash it usually do not even live there, or just prefer a "big city" type of urban lifestyle, and Winter Haven is small. You must take all posts, pro and con, with a grain of salt here.

Please visit the area and make your own determination. I haven't lived there but visited many times and am really impressed with the beauty and nice downtown despite it's small size. There are some GREAT deals there for homes right now, too. Not sure if you have already looked at the Chamber of Commerce site, but this gives some more info and photos:

They are soon to begin building the new CSX facility in Winter Haven also, which is ultimately going to create thousands of decent jobs. It is going to be a great place to be, IMO.

Good luck!

Makes sense that different people have different opinions though.

I agree Gypsy... Winter Haven is NOT a bad place, I went there a lot when I lived in Lake Wales. I thought it was a great place, so was Lake Wales.

Excerpt from link : Recognized nationally by Money Magazine as the 10th "Best Place to Live in America" for 1998, for medium-sized cities in the south, Lakeland offers its residents an exceptional quality of life.

We are NOT in 1998.

Good call Lakeland yankee....

A LOT has changed everywhere since 1998, it's pretty dumb using something from 10 YEARS BACK!!! Get better reasearch, you should have come up with something better than that, keep looking though we are waiting...LOL. Cape Coral was the fastest growing city in the US in 2005, now look at it there.......

Winter Haven is mainly geared for the retired 55+ crowd even moreso than Lakeland. I do LOVE the beautiful well maintained parks and the many lakes (many more than Lakeland) there though.
Lake Wales: Lake Wales Chamber of Commerce Home Page and north Auburndale: Auburndale, Florida Chamber-Mainstreet are much better towns in Polk County imho.
