Our underwriter at State Farm says there may only be a 7% discount and none for most.

The actual numbers: In Florida there are one and a half million homesteaded homes that no longer carry any form of homeowners insurance. This is according to the Office of Insurance Regulations. There is no way to know how many non-homesteaded homes no longer carry any homeowners insurance however it is estimated at least as many as homesteaded, maybe more.
Yes those of us with mortgages are required to still carry coverage but as you can see Florida has many homes that have been paid off and can't afford coverage any longer. Many seniors on fixed incomes fall into that category.

Yes you will recieve a 7% decrease but it will be taken off of the 51% increase they were granted last year so actually you will recieve a 44% increase. Check out the Office of Insurance Regulations website.

Rates have been frozen for one year on Citizens. All private companies are still enjoying their approved raises from last year such as StateFarm's 51% increase and Nationwide's 71% increase.

I don't think that is legal. They need to contact the Department of Insurance Regulations ASAP!
