Despite the very real problems Florida has, it is not horrible for everybody.

What places may those be? Florida had the second largest job losses in the Country in 2008, only second to California that is twice its size. You lived here in the 80's, the Florida of 2009 is much different. I hope you are bringing a fat bank account when you move here.

Sunny-days, you lived here back in the 80's? Wow! It is much different here now. If you are looking for FL in the 80's-type atmosphere, why not check out GA or SC? That's where so many of the Floridians went, especially the ones who were here in the 80's.

At least in Florida, you can be warm and you don't have to shovel snow while you're job searching. It's crap everywhere!!

Because 1) It's NOT a Florida like atmosphere in Georgia or South Carolina, and anyone who pretends it is is on crack,

and 2) unemployment is WORSE in South Carolina and the same in Georgia as it is here.

Is that enough reason?

Florida was one of the states that led the nation into the housing boom and also into the housing bust. It has preceded the nation with regard to recession and escalating unemployment … my sense is that it will also lead the nation in its recovery, when ever that may be!

I said Florida in the 80's is like SC or GA now. Not what FL is today, I realize FL today is much different than places like GA and SC. FL is more like NY or NJ now. Have you lived in both FL and GA/SC to know anyways?

Besides, my comment was for Sunny-Days, not TriMT7.

I have to agree. It is nothing like it was in the 80s.

In Orlando, the whole economy changed since the 80s. Back then we had more large employers, such as the Naval Training Center. Westinghouse, Stromberg-Carlson and Martin Marietta were larger operations as well. Also, the urban sprawl was not even close to what it is now.

Orlando: the definition of urban sprawl. It is incredible to drive through areas and see house after house, piled in there like sardines. They look like boxes stacked beside one another.

Actually, that isnt an Orlando-specific problem, but definitely evident there.

Errr...doesn't matter. First off, the only way that SC/GA is like Florida of the 1980s is that malcontents of every stripe think that area is their shangrila, even though the evidence is to the contrary. In terms of everything else, from economy to weather to geography and lifestyle THERE IS NO COMPARISON. None. Maybe Jacksonville or Tallahassee is comparable to a Georgian or South Carolinian town, but that's about it.
