So, Southerners in Florida really should be celebrating Henry Flagler, instead of Jeffy Davis...

We do have to accept the possibility that our Southern friend may have preferred it if the Miami metro area remained undeveloped swampland.

That possibility certainly has crossed my mind.
Some folks like swamps.

Lordy oh my, who on earth and in their right mind does not enjoy a good old-fashioned swamp, and the History Channel’s wonderful television program “Swamp People”, has taught us all that there is money to be made in the swamp. Oh yeah.

Well, the area I am from in MO used to be known as SwampEast Missouri, the old timers called the pretty girls "swamp angels".

Default Antebellum Miami, Fla

The Miami area was never a swamp, and even in Antebellum times Miami was a small coastal town much like Cedar Key and Apalachicola today. In fact the redlands area of Miami has some of the richest soil found anywhere in the state....you can't grow citrus in swamplands, you must be thinking of the Everglades.

I don't even know you and I like you already. I wish more of the kids being raised these days would say "maam' and 'sir' because that is part of our culture as Florida natives. I told a lady yes maam last winter who was from the North as I opened the door for her and she was totally offended by it. She told me she wasn't old enough to be a 'maam' and that she could open the door herself...she was obviously not raised right.

***MOD CUT***

Don't be surprised by the way the woman acted, most modern women do not enjoy being treated like babies. I'm certain, you as the Good Southern Man you are, turned opening the door into a "three ring circus, with extra clowns", and she was like "what is this idiot doing, he is just opening a door, and why is he treating me like a helpless elderly baby".

I've been opening doors for people all around the globe for years and have never had a bad experience, I suppose because I just open the door and do not expect someone to stage a Super Bowl halftime style of show in my honor to thank me for opening the door.

Springtime Tallahassee is a celebration in Florida's capital city celebrating the State's heritage. Here is another couple who host the event below, they call them "Belles & Gents"

This year's Springtime Tallahassee Parade Downtown

But this is a fools paradise...and soon....if they don't stop this ignorant selfish behavior, North Florida will suffer the same cultural genocide that South Florida endured.....the Yankees who once only visited will begin to buy property, begin to vote, begin to impose their ways of living and belief systems on our families.....on our children. Native Floridans on County Commissions, Development Boards, City Councils and other government agencies will start loosing their voice in their communities, because they will start loosing the vote and their jobs! I hope we all take note of the real estate companies in our communities and what they're up too. Because what they are doing will have far-reaching effects for all of us.
This has happened everywhere pretty.

I told someone the other day that the prices of property, homes etc. are unrealistic and off kilter in this country. They told me that a price is real if there is someone willing to pay it. In a place where 5% of the population can pay anything and the 95% cannot, what's real?

Anyways, go to Montana, Idaho or Wyoming (or Colorado). It has been bought up up wealthy Californians who can sell a 2 bdrm, 1 bath condo in San Francisco for a few million and then go buy 20 acres and build a mansion (and raise property prices, taxes etc. for the rest of us). Locals cannot afford to live in the pretty places anymore 'cause they are all inaccessible due to prices being unrealistic.

Same has happened to FL only our demise came from Jersey and New York...

I live in Montana and yes you have somewhat of an understanding of what has happened in Montana. In FL it is quite different. We were able to buy a pool home (3bed/2bath) for 65,00.00 in a nice neighborhood in North Port FL (same place in MT would have been at least twice that without a pool)-not too many places that can happen. Thank you FL!!! If FL locals cannot afford to buy in FL at those kind of prices, I fear they are out priced everywhere.

Florida is very affordable as far as buying a home IMO.
