americans seem to be so eager to give up their freedoms lately......
You still have the option of taking your car. No one will force you to ride these trains. It will only make the roads less congested which is better for people like us who like driving our own cars.

They won't develop project housing around high speed rail stations. That would be pointless. Poor people aren't going to need high speed rail. These aren't going to be like the commuter trains in NY and NJ. They are high speed connector rails that will connect major metro areas. They wont be for poor people who cant afford cars to use to get around town.

Who is "we"?

There is no more land available for the construction of major highways in South Florida. None. Enough with paving over the natural environment for urban sprawl and McMansions an hour outside of where everyone works.

A high speed rail system connecting the major cities can run right down the median of I-95, I-4, I-75, and I-10 on an elevated track or monorail system.

I'm for improving public transportation for day to day commuting in metropolitan areas. That will improve the lives of the majority of citizens here and get rid of some of the congestion on our roads. I am NOT for a train to take tourists to Disney. If Disney wants a train to cart in their customers, THEY can pay for it.

The tourists are going to Disney anyway. A high-speed rail that connects Orlando to other large cities would make it much more tempting for them to spread the wealth and visit other areas of Florida, too.

I have a question to all pro-train commentators...

U agree on paying taxes to support those projects...

Would u buy stock in the private companies who might run those trains ?

I would have to read the public offering plan (prospectus) in order to answer that question. However, public transit should be just that - public. I would rather the system be run with public service - as opposed to money - as the goal.

By public u mean...constantly in the red,subsidised by taxpayers'money...

Actually a constant fraud, while the true cost of a ride would be $3,the customer would pay $1 by ticket & $2 by taxation...

Yes, that's precisely what I mean. I don't care if it's "in the red;" it's a public service that is financed with taxpayers' money, not a for-profit business that should have shareholders' best interests in mind.
