I just had a hot dog from Johnny Rockets in St. Louis last weekend. That was the best tasting hot dog I have ever had. It only had ketchup on it because it was for my son and he didn't eat it. His loss, my gain.

I personally don't like hot dogs, but if I do have one, it is Nathan's, and only the natural casing. Has nothing to do with the fact that my husband sells Nathan's to the grocery stores

The show "A Hot Dog Show" will be on PBS Thursday night at 10pm here in Florida, not sure about other states. All the greatest hot dog joints in the USA are visited... I Love That Program... they did an ice cream one too.

the natural casing hot dogs arent cheap anymore, in the supermarkets around here (maine) in the deli.. they are around 4.49lb!
(3.99) in the meat departments, sometimes on sale for 2.99 or better,,,
if you eat alot of them, buy a whole 5 lb bag,, independent stores can reduce the retail significantly!
most natural casing franks are 10-12(franks) to a pound, but they do make some 8-10 to a pound, the larger , fatter ones.

the skinless hot dog,,,many of those sell around 99 cents per pound,,,,great for kids!!

No matter the price, a quality dog is a good one, break it down for what you'd pay at a stand or eatery. I wouldn't have the cheapo 99 cents a pack "hot dogs" in my house nor would I feed them to children, the kids deserve what the big people eat... or better. The same is usually the norm. A lot of little kids I know can read the words "mechanically separated beef, pork, and chicken"... spend the bucks and have a great experience... T&C

I like Sabrett's with a fresh, steamed bun. As for fixin's I like them with fresh, chopped onions, mustard and with or without chili.

I absolutely detest supermarket wieners and am a dog snob. If I can't get Sabrett's I will eat Nathan's or Hebrew National in a pinch.

Great thread, it's fun to see everyone's posts!

Tasty!!!

Don't need to identify 'em, just put 'em all together, season as desired, cook via preferred method, slop on whichever fixin's ya want, open mouth,,, oh yea...

ps: hot dogs, like laws and sausages, are better to digest when not observed how made... , or something like that...
If interested tho', maybe might want to read "The Jungle", the novel by Upton Sinclair...

As long as it has Cleveland's Stadium Mustard on it, I don't care what kind of hot dog it is ...

*waiting for Bertman's Ballpark Mustard fans to show up in this thread*

Toasted bun opened, two hot dogs sliced down the middle and opened, top with chili w/beans, diced onions and top off with mustard. Grab a fork and knife, enjoy.
