Believe or not, some people use closer to 2 cups. That's WAY too sweet for me, I use about 3/4 cup per gallon of tea.

I find that most restaurants make theirs too sweet, so I ask for half sweet/half unsweet.

I just had some unsweetened ice tea yesterday with some mint leaves added to it and it was surprisingly good. I didn't feel like I needed the sugar.

Drinking sweet tea to me is like drinking syrup. I like unsweetened with just a little lemon.

Nope. Not a fan of soda either . Or sweet alcoholic drinks for that matter. Keep the umbrella drink and pass me a gin and tonic.

That sounds more like syrup than tea! How can it be refreshing to drink something with so much sugar?

And there are 1,548 calories in two cups of sugar.

I drink unsweetened tea. I concede...it's an 'acquired' taste, especially with so many people hooked on sugar these days.

I don't know but unsweetened tea is disgusting and bland... doesn't even really have a "taste" to be honest. I don't know how people like it though.

I make a batch of it every week for my wife and I. I use 2 cups of sugar and you've got to pour the sugar in when the tea is hot or else it won't taste or come out right. If you see any traces of sugar floating around in your tea, you did something wrong.

I personally find sweet tea too sweet, and when ordering out I ask for 1/2 & 1/2 - half sweet, half unsweetened. My teeth thank me!
In CA sweet tea is pretty rare, but I go for 1/3 sweet, the rest unsweet. Unless it is iced green tea, I keep that unsweet. It reallly depends on the tea variety. The lighter the tea (in taste) the less I like sweetener. Unless it is tart.

Do people buy them and pour raw sugar in it when they get home? thus adding the amount so its not too sweet, so it's just right?

or do people just drink it like that unsweetened?
I drink it just as it is, unsweetened. The taste grows on you, if you really like tea.

I like the taste of the tea - not sugar. I prefer herbal tea and sugar would just ruin that.
