Just announced, featured at Indiana's State Fair this year: deep-fried Girl Scout Samoa cookies, deep-fried M-& M's, deep-fried Hershey's drops and deep-fried bubble gum.
In 2011 the deep-fried favorites were pickles, Twinkies, Snickers bars, ice cream, Kool-Aid, doughnuts and bacon.
I might mention that I don't eat any of these treats, although I enjoy going to the fair and always check out the food booths to see what is available. I do love the Roasting Ears stand, and that is where I will be at dinner time.
The Roasting Ears stand is amazing. There are dozens of ears of fresh young sweet corn, cooking in the husk over hot coals. Then the corn is taken straight from the coals, too hot to touch, and corn holders are placed in the ends and it is served. Some people put butter and salt on the ears but many of us think that it is just perfect the way it is.
My favortite is corn dogs. Have not had them in 5 years. As for the other deep fried treats I have had fried oreos. Too sweet for me. The rest I have never tried and don't think I will anytime soon.
Ugh....this stuff like everything at fairs is disgusting, I tried some of it the last time I was at a fair.
Fried Kool-aid just looks like a hushpuppy, they mix the kool-aid with a batter and fry it.
Ya , I have a friend ( concessioner) at the fair now , he usually sells hambergers, this year he has a "Wagon Wheel" Its a grilled hamberger that has been chilled and then dipped in corndog batter and deep fried ! That solves the problem of the hamberger falling out of the bun, Add a little cheese, onions, mustard on top and eat it like a cookie !
