Indian curry? I like it a lot, but I can understand why the smell might bother some people.

Thai curry? I LOVE IT! Can't get enough of it.

There are many, many different types of curries, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Jamaican, etc. It's just a mixture of different spices. Some can be only a couple different spices, some can be a lot of different spices. I don't think they really use our type of packaged curry powder overseas. I think I read that this mixture was actually mixed in India when the British were over there, for their use.

That being said, I love them all.

I've never met a curry I didn't like, but agree that the smell lingers a long time. When we make it at home we laugh that we have "curry house" for the next 3 days or so.

Visiting Mom and Dad in the Tampa Bay area Indian food in general is literally non existent, i guess its just that kind of cuisine most Americans dont favor, just as i'm sure most Indians would gag at most of the meat dishes served up at most American tables.

Do people here like some/most curried dishes? Has it ever made anyone sick (diarrhea or the like)? And do you think people (outside of food outlets) who cook with it/eat it should be a bit more considerate when dealing with others? I can't help but be irritated when the sharp smell bursts into my nose (from my neighbour's, for example) and makes me cough/sneeze or when someone talks to me & I smell their curried breath.
I happen to really like it, but I know a lot of people who do not.It is very strong and is something that you love or hate I think.

I think one has to acquire a taste slowly and with very good Indian food. I worked in an Indian restaurant and that is where I learned about it. They only way to insure great Indian food is to either eat it at a very good restaurant or to cook it yourself, from scratch, mixing your own spices. Then you can control the amount of spice and hotness to your own tastes. No doubt, Indian food is VERY good for you!

Curry, all that Indian mushy, slimey food...the taste and the smell is completely neauseating to me. Yuk and triple yuk.

Some malls have this dreck in their food courts and the odor ( not aroma!) drifts out to permeate the entire center...I don't shop at these places anymore. I'm quite surprised that other shops in the malls don't complain of the stench.

I've travelled to a few third world countries where the powerful reek of curry is overwhelming; I definitely cancelled plans to visit India when I was much younger...no point in being queasy and downright ill on vacation.

You betcha I dislike curry!
