Had the urge for stuffed cabbage but didn't feel like all the work of parboiling cabbage, rolling etc. So experimenting-layered a deep casserole with cabbage (large shreds), layer of cooked rice, ground beef mixed w/chopped onions, another layer of cabbage. Poured lg can of tomato sauce that I mixed with brown sugar,lemon juice, worstershire, salt & pepper. Will slow bake at 275-300 for 1 1/2-2 hrs.
Report back on results later.
My mother makes that, she calls it layered stuff cabbage. Tastes really good without all the fuss!

hahahaha.... Lacey I was on the first round of the certificates give away. I didn't know what to do with it. I was Overwhelmed by Overstock. There were just so many things I could get, even if I had to pay a little extra. I couldn't make up my mind, especially in the jewelry section, so you know what I got? A huge bed for my big dog! He loves it. It can't get any better.
Denise-it sure smells good, just like when I put all that time and effort into the rolls. I did cook the rice but left the beef and onions raw. Biscuits with it and German Choc cake with pecan frosting.

Well I don't think I'll ever roll another cabbage roll,it was so good. Sour cream on top. Leftovers for tomorrow over mashed or noodles.
