I buy "light" dressing, but I don't really care for the fat free types. Right now I have some Ken's Steakhouse Lite Caesar in the fridge, and its pretty good.

I usually make my own, with the exception of a few bottled dressings I like. I do not compromise on flavor, ever, so I just try to use less.
I just made a White French that is to die for, but the cup of dressing is 1597 calories. You can believe I used it sparingly, and I never put fattening ingredients, like cheese in my salads.

When I was running hospital kitchens, we produced our own "Zero Dressing" that was low-cal, no sodium, and the like.

Here are SIMILAR recipes that can be modified to eliminate the sugar and salt:

Personally, I would probably start with a base of low-sodium V-8 juice heated and thickened with corn starch and seasoned with a variety of herbs and spices. One of these days, I will have to try it.

Red wine vinegar and oil dressing if I am at home, honey mustard or Caesar dressing if I go out to eat.

I need to start making my own. I've just never done it. I like most of Newman's, and Ken's Steak House are my favorite. Unfortunately I just opened my recent bottle of Ken's Sweet Vidalia Onion and discovered I accidentally bought the "Lite" version. Ick. Too sweet, full of sugar. DAM!!
When I eat out I have blue cheese. A supper club I used to love that is now out of business made their own dressings, and the 1000 Island was to die for. It had chunks of hard boiled egg in it! Fabulous. I think I'm going to go search the recipes forum and see if I can find some easy recipes. I eat salad every day at work so I go through plenty of it.

I'm partial to plain olive oil, but am not averse to a sugar-laden ranch dressing every now and again.

For anyone who likes to make their own dressing, I recently bought this salad dressing shaker and would recommend it to others. It has a nice tight seal, so nothing leaks, and has measuring marks down the side of it. Also, the pour spout is constructed in such a way that nothing drips down the side of the bottle after you pour.

I used to use a lot of ranch when I was a kid to get through a salad...now I barely put half a teaspoon of light italian on my greens.
