As something of a traditionalist, I like making my salad in a wooden or glass bowl.
But there is a practical use for plastic ones.
When you are making the mixings of "salad in a baggie" to take into work, you can squeeze the sides together to fit the opening of the baggie. It really helps when it is just you and your two hands.
I'm not confused because I use the method quite often when I need to get things into a plastic bag - just squeeze the bowl to fit the opening of the plastic bag.
Why not just use a plastic salad bowl with a tight fitting lid and skip the plastic Baggie?
Lunch Blox makes nice salad bowls with snap-out containers for dressing and toppings. They come with refreezeable ice packs that snap on the bowl to keep your salad fresh and cold until lunch.
