Wow. It's come to my attention lately just how much sugar is in one glass of milk, and other dairy products.
For instance, 11 - 12 grams average per glass of milk, 2%, and whole, even organic. Even though it's not listed as one of the ingredients, it's listed under the nutrition content. And because it's used in the making of other dairy products, you may be looking at 6 grms of sugar in your 2/3 of a cup of organic, plain, fat-free yogurt. Or, how about 2 grms of sugar per 2 tbsp of sour cream? Pretty crazy huh?
Or those little tiny juice boxes for kids lunches weighing in at around 28 grms per box! Whoa!
Even something like some weak tasting organic lemonade, .. figure there can't be a whole lot of sugar to this one .. yup, 30+ grms per cup. Does make you sit up and wonder how much sugar you consumed in that last margarita or two you ordered.
So you figure you're helping the kids out by skipping the soda pop that contains what, something like 8 tbsp of sugar and give them milk instead. Much better of course, but if they're to drink a glass or two or three ..
No wonder obesity is on the rise. All the hidden sugars in foods that you wouldn't expect to contain sugar, such as milk!
Who would have thought? 60 Minutes had a real eye-opener on sugar recently, if you have the chance to see it sometime, it's pretty darn interesting, as well as astonishing.
I invested in a Vitamix and make my own almond milk at home. Not only is there no sugar added, there aren't preservatives either. Pre-soaking the nuts also enhances protein content.
If you want to add coco, add cacao powder.
You can do so much with a Vitamix.
And, if your kids like lemonade, you can create your own organic lemonade at home using maple syrup in small quantities or you can even blend it with pineapples for the natural sugar flavor. Sooo good!! You can also add lavender to it too (without the pineapple).

I don't agree. Fresh made OJ and Pineapple juice can be beneficial. I would mix either with a vegetable or two if your concerned about the juice being too sweet. Pineapple has a lot of health benefits.
Fruit juices are mainly sugar with a little Vitamin C.
So many people today have carbohydrate metabolism disorders.......drinking a beverage that is basically sugar............NOT HEALTHY, NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your body responds to juice the same way it responds to other sugary beverages. So, unfortunately, parents are feeding their children juice, not realizing that it’s just as bad as other sugary beverages. It might have a couple of vitamins, but it’s better to eat the whole fruit.”
All things in moderation, dear. Problems arise when you drink a giant 20-oz. glass of orange juice every day, instead of a 4 or 6 oz. glass.
Every so often I will get an intense craving and drink about one or two 12 oz glass of OJ in a couple of days....but that is about once every six months or longer. I wish they would make quarts of OJ rather than having to buy a half gallon.
