That's the risk we take with any store-bought food, no matter where it is from.

We're fortunate to be the home of the pacific fishing fleet and have salmon available right off the boats from Alaska, but if I had to buy at the store it would not be from Walmart. We do buy some name brand items there but not meat or fish. Yes, it's cheaper to ship salmon from Alaska to China and back than to have U.S. workers process it. In your location, it has to go a long way even after it returns to the states. I would take it back and if you really want salmon, order it from the Pike Place Fish Market or Wild Salmon Seafood at Fishermen's Terminal in Seattle. Both ship overnight. It will cost you but will taste much better and be really fresh.

Perhaps other option, if you have one close enough, would be Whole Foods? Of course, don't forget their nickname..."Whole Paycheck"...

I could have sworn that was Wegmans nickname. Every time I exit that store I feel like I helped Danny buy another Canandaigua castle.

Ah, Wegmans. I wanted to set up housekeeping in the cheese department of their store north of Towson. I miss that place.

People have lots of buying options if they're willing to ask some simple questions and pay a few cents more. The bonus is when you do, you also end up supporting local families and jobs that provide a living wage.

And the pellets are made from taste things like chicken manure......fish manure. Yummo! And people wonder why I won't eat fish.

Oh, for goodness sakes, have you ever looked at what chickens eat? And I say that as a mostly vegetarian!

A lot of the frozen and canned salmon is caught in Canada and Alaska....and processed in China.
