I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool pizza lover. I eat it only on occasion, usually when someone else buys it. No knife and fork - I'm a "folder".
What I do take seriously is the amount of calories in the pizza. The caloric intake better be worth eating an extra slice. If I'm going to "indulge", I'll take a pint of Ben and Jerry's NYSFC over "bad" pizza every day of the week.
We've recently become obsessed with Poppa Murphy's veggie pizza. Probably not extremely healthy due to the sauce but paired with the toppings it's really, really tasty and very filling.
From their menu:
"Artisan Thin Crust, Creamy Garlic Sauce, Spinach, Zucchini, Mushrooms, Artichoke Hearts, Tomatoes, Mixed Onions, Herb & Cheese Blend."
The most authentic pizza in the U.S., similar to the real thing in Italy described by mar89 can be found at Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana, which has location in Las Vegas, Utah, and Southern California. It was founded by former USC quarterback Brad Otton. Otton went to Italy to learn how to make real pizza and brought his knowledge back here. New York has real pizza? Fuhgettaboudit.
You seem to only have problems with NY pizza and people's allegiance to their pizza. Not Chicagoans, Pennsylvanians, or any other fans of their own regional pizza.
This thread is not about Pizza loyalty. It's about hatred of NY.
The very first time I ate a slice of Pizza was in Syracuse, NY in 1955. It tasted of yeast and had a very thin coat of tomato topping that was dry from being baked. That was the best I had ever tasted in all my live and none have ever compared. I had the same experience with shrimp. The first shrimp I ate was on a pier near Manhattan Beach, CA in 1957. It was large, on a stick and delicious. No other shrimp has tasted that good since.

My nephew used to work as the pizza chef at a local Italian restaurant here in town. He made a special pie when we came in to eat. That was delish! Unfortunately, he has moved to LA and we no longer get the special.
Well, I was not aware of that, they do a lot of unusual pairings and combinations there as well as specials. The owner believes in sourcing local ingredients and sustainability, but the rabbit confit is odd.
Try a slice in NYC and then try a slice in Altoona PA or Laramie WY, and then try and say that the ones in Altoona or Laramie were better
Nailed it, Warszawa! NY owns Pizza.
I was in Ukraine about five years ago, and I came across a pizza place with the NYC skyline - pre 9/11 called "New York Pizza".
Better than any out of NY/NJ pizza at most places by miles. I won't insult this place by making a comparison to any chain pizza.
These Ukrainians got it RIGHT!
