I've seen it at my local Asian Grocery. what do you do with it? Does it taste like American style bacon? If not, compare it to something for me, please? (it ain't cheap, as I recall)
It's smokey, but with flavors of anise, 5 spice, ginger, and is really savoury. I know you can get unsmoked as well, but I much prefer the smoked.

It is more unctuous version of American bacon to me.

Smithfield Foods is the world's largest pork producer. Red China bought Smithfield Foods last year. Along with all the packing plants they got 480 very large farms here in the USA. Along with the hog farms they got vast acreages of corn fields. Some lop yuk may originate in the USA now.
This is opening up new avenues in my BRAIN!
I just made the most amazing Chinese Thai...'who knows what'...
broiled org chicken! I must get this bacon!
I started eating bacon last October after going 26 years not eating any meat except for seafood.
I got excited at the Asian market the other day when I saw thick Chinese bacon, then realized it was made with soy sauce and contained wheat. If you're gluten-free (like me), be careful that you don't end up with one you can't eat.
I would imagine that would go very well in congee (rice porridge) as well.
