Going to our neighbor's house right behind us. I'm bring beef brisket that was marinated overnight and is now filling our house with the most amazing, mouth warming scent. (275* for 5 hours or so) While it is cooling, I will be making my BBQ sauce (secret ingredient is kahlua) to pour over the brisket after I've de-fatted and shredded it. Back into the oven for an hour then I will transfer it into a crock pot to take over there later. Take some buns over and people can load up their bun with that amazing BBQ beef brisket.
Also taking an apple pie.
Of course we will have to sample the BBQ just to make sure it is as delicious as it smells
We make a seven layer bean dip: Refried beans, guacomole, Sour cream, green onions, tomatoes, cheese, black olives, oh, I'm up to seven...whoohoo! I also add a little salsa and tortilla chips, Super Bowl, I'm ready!
So here we are, only 2 days plus a few hours away and it is party time for many. How are you spending the evening and what are you making, anything exciting? We have decided just to stay home, but I am pretending it is Party time like it was for many years: I am fixing wings, a couple of dips, chips and cut up veggies for the dip. I have lots of home made chex type of mix to put out and will probably do some pot stickers as well. Now to stay awake until the game is over will be my challenge. It probably depends on how much wine I have. I have to pretend it is 10, 20 or 30 years ago and try to keep up with those days.
Going to a pot luck at the clubhouse, I will just take deviled eggs, as when we went to the last pot luck, (playoff game) the place was overloaded with pizza, fried chicken, chips, dips & sandwiches. I often make chicken to take, but as our team is in the SB, I know there will be way too much food, so I want to take some simple finger foods.
Actually, I'll be trying something called Crab Fries that was in Parade a few weeks ago. You take a 32-oz bag of crinkle-cut French fries baked and tossed in Old Bay, and dip them in white queso dip. Supposedly from some football stadium in Baltimore. It sounds terribly unhealthy and I'm sure I will love it.
I enjoy football, but don't watch the NFL anymore unless its on at work (which it will be and I'll be working the night of the Super Bowl :sad. Still, I love Super Bowl parties for the culinary spread! When I attended some in the past, I made delicious homemade sandwiches and potato salad. Folks were free to bring whatever else they wanted to.
