I don't buy them often but when I did recently, they seemed, well, less than I remember. Used to be that an English muffin was satisfying. Now it just made me want a second one.
I was wondering - so many food manufacturers have reduced their product size over the years ... does anyone know if Thomas' English muffins used to be bigger?
Everything has shrunk. Check the size of a box of rice a roni for starters? We rarely use it but do keep a few boxes on hand. Well they are on sale this week so decided to buy a couple. They are now about 3 oz smaller than a few years ago. An ad in our local favorite food store flyer this week, front page:NY Strip 4.99lb. Of course I knew that just couldn't be right: well it was right ok, but at closer reading it was 9 oz.
Yup. Everything's getting smaller. Haagen Dazs is no longer a pint but something like 414 ml, and many juice bottles now come in an hourglass shape with an concave dent in the bottom to cheat you on product. I think they gave you fewer ounces in the squeeze bottles of mayo than the jar. I could go on...

Did it actually say 4.99lb? Or did you just see 4.99 and assume it meant a lb? The grocery stores here always list NY Strip for the package price of one steak, which is usually an 8oz package.
If they were advertising 4.99lb, but were selling 9 oz steaks for that price I would be complaining to management, and having them give me the advertised price. 9oz isn't even close to being a lb.

Fry's Supermarkets (a Kroger's affiliate) in the Tucson area is offering USDA Choice, bone in NY Strip steaks in its ads for $4.97/LB in its ads. Since I bought a family package, that is a per pound price, NOT an each price.
Safeway and Albertsons are notorious for advertising meat products at an EACH price so that you think you are getting a great steal. That might be why I drive pass two Safeway stores when I shop elsewhere.
As for Rice-a-Roni, you gotta be kidding. I think that there MIGHT be a dime in all the ingredients you find in their box. That is one item that you can pretty much make for about half teh price of the box.
