No, in a lot of cases, I find that cheaper than cooking at home. By the time you buy all the ingredients you can easily have $20 or more in a meal for two people. Even when I make a pot of chili, I have $30 in it easily, but I do get more than one meal out of it.
$30 to make chili? I made it last week, and spent maybe $10 on ingredients. It lasted is 3 meals, so it's not like I didn't make a lot. I guess if you are buying spices each time you make it, but those are all items I have in my pantry already.

I can see it if you buy high quality meat, fresh chiles, cheese, some other toppings, bread
Meat $10
Beans $4
Tomato sauce- $5
Misc- $5
Spices/produce-$7
Just a note, the OP's previous 6 entries were about legalizing weed. I'm all for legalization, I like a bowl or two, just sayin', he maybe a little slow on the uptake?

When I make anything, I make a big pot. You figure, two pounds of ground sirloin are going to be about $16, then you add in probably 6-8 cans of various tomato products, another 4-5 cans of various kidney beans, spices, onion, and a loaf of nice French or other bread to go with it, and $30 adds up quickly. I generally can't get out of the grocery store with stuff for dinner for less than $25-$30.
Maybe some of you can do it cheaper, but I only shop at Publix because of the quality and service, and they are not the cheapest around. But I am willing to pay extra for those benefits.

I agree, but then the meals you end up cooking are a solid ten portions. At least in my case. Normally enough to feed my family of 5 twice.

That's just what I was thinking. So $30 divided by 10 portions = $3/portion. Not bad!
