all I have to say is: I have been eating raw spinach my entire life. We used to have it as a kid about once a week. Actually, we had it cooked. My kids still prefer it over regular lettuce or romaine in a salad. So far none of us are less for the wear. I am sure, like anything, overdoing it can be bad, plus who can afford to eat it daily? But the positives versus the negative probably balance it out. I will continue to enjoy it from time to time, along with many foods that may not be good for me. My opinion and it always has been: moderation people.
If I avoided every single food because of some negative about it, I would literally starve to death lol. I think it is ridiculous to worry about a food that is highly nutritious because of some negative.
I've eaten many leafy greens over the years (especially as a vegetarian or vegan), in fact almost daily, some cooked some raw, and have never had an issue. I have been well aware of high oxalate foods for years, but that doesn't mean those foods don't still provide some benefit. Also, if you drink coffee or tea and want to avoid high oxalate food, better kiss those goodbye too.
I think the important thing when we read any of these so called studies is: where did they come from, what is the source of the information? Oh sure, anyone can refer to a study or test report this or that. Heck I can do a study on my own and report, according to the latest studies thus and so isn't good for you. Go into any bar and ask the drinkers if they think booze is good or that everyone should stop drinking. What do you think the results would show?
Yes, just make sure you drink a lot of water then and stay hydrated. Usually it helps a lot at preventing stones if you eat a lot of oxalate containing food.
I've known about this issue for some time and avoid fresh spinach, but now and then eat cooked spinach. This just came thru from one of my other health groups. If this does not belong here, please move it to where it would be more appropriate. thanks.
Hard to know what to do because others say spinach is a super healthy food. I don't like spinach but I eat it sometimes because of the supposed health benefits.
Some of the other foods on that list I've quit eating after reading another book. But give up all nuts and chocolate???
I like spinach but full grown spinach, seems most spinach in the produce section these days is baby spinach. ive resorted to buying cans of spinach if i cant find mature spinach.

I stopped making it at home because it doesn't agree with DH stomach. It started giving him diarrhea.
I can eat any other green vegetable without a problem, but if I eat more than--let's say--a mouthful of spinach, I wind up with diarrhea. No more spinach for me!
