I spent $100 on a custom made, Large, end grain maple cutting board. By large, I mean it takes up most of the depth of the counter and is a 1/3rd wider while standing about 2.5" tall.

Why is it my favorite? Several reasons, first is that it's easy on my expensive knives, I have to sharpen them about half as often now. Next is that I'm 6'4" and it raises my work surface to a more comfortable height and last is that it has such a HUGE area that I have room to work AND leave my prepared piles on the cutting board.

I'm a cook though, I use that thing at least twice a day and 3 times or more about half the time. Clearly, I'm a function over form guy...
I love my cutting board too. Mine is not nearly as large, though. It is not custom, but is handmade in the States. Having the right tools to do kitchen jobs is such a pleasure, no?

Oooh, Denby. Nice. My kettle and pot are both Chantal. My pot is the best one I’ve ever owned. But I do have a large English teapot as well.

Making tea in the afternoon is such a nice thing to do for oneself and another.

We HATE our kitchen. It is so tiny and poorly designed. But we liked the rest of the house so we accepted it as it is. Also, my husband is the cook, so I don't putter in there much.

But I do LOVE our Hamilton-Beach can-opener. It's one of those that cuts the lid around the outside. It doesn't "hold" the can so the I have to, but that's way okay by me. Crazy to make a big ado about can-openers, but some people prefer the small ones that you can snap on and let them cut as they rotate. I've had a couple of those and they didn't last.

If you’re talking about equipment. I have a 9x13 sheet pan with sides. It’s smaller size is perfect for so many uses that I use it almost every day.

The vent hood that vents to the outside. It really makes a difference when I'm cooking Indian or Moroccan dishes.
Oh, and my rooster pitcher for pouring "chicken water" at the table.

OMG, that side of your kitchen is shaped exactly like ours! But ours has a sharp diagonal "cut" which makes it so tiny. The wall is gridded for hanging pots and pans, and there is a microwave cart. No room for an island, and yours seems to leave little room around your island. Do you like it?

Also, what do you store in that little corner "cabinet" between the range and the sink??? I curse every time I have to get something out of there.

I like the improvements you made.
