I was disappointed in Jersey Mike's. I like Jimmy John's ok if I can't get a real sandwich somewhere, but I hate their employment practices. Who makes a minimum wage grunt sign a noncompete clause? Ridiculous.

In any case, if I do spring for a sandwich to be delivered, I make sure to give a massive tip.

I've never tried Jersey Mike's, but given the positive comments on this thread, I'll have to give them a try if the opportunity presents itself. I think Jimmy John's is OK, but not really all that good. I tend to avoid them. I wasn't aware of their employment practices, but now I have another reason to avoid them.

Firehouse Subs, I like them very much. Too bad the closest ones are at least 30 minutes away from me. I've only had Earl of Sandwich once (it was at the I-95 rest stop in Maryland that another poster mentioned) and I really enjoyed it.

Technically they have gluten-free options, but it is an apples to oranges comparison when you’re talking a sandwich compared to a wrap.

They're not bad, but they're nothing all that special.

The one use I had for Jimmy John's was that there was one near where I worked for many years, and on a break I'd go there because they genuinely are fast - within 90 seconds of beginning to verbalize my order, I'm walking out the door with a meal in hand.

It's fast food. The whole point of it is not to be great, but reasonably palatable and quick.

Jersey Mikes is a better far more substantial sandwich. Jimmy Johns is good, thin on ingredients but good chewy French bread.

I like them both, but Jersey Mikes has more options including cheesesteaks. The other great thing is they hand slice the meat and cheese for every sandwich.

The scores;
I'd give Jersey Mikes a 7.6/10
Jimmy Johns a 6.8/10

and for reference

Subway 3.7/10

I hate to bash on Subway, but they've gotten more expensive, without really improving. I'll visit them if I got a coupon (best thus far is a foot long for $6) and in the mood, but I can't even recall what year I last visited them. Oh well. No JJ nor JM's, but at least many eateries can make a better sandwich.

I've tried both JM and JJ. Their sandwiches are ok, but are expensive. I prefer the local, one off sub shops.

I'd call them about equally awful.

They are seriously fast. I used to work in downtown Savannah. The JJ was about 4 blocks away. I could call in my order and in less than 10 minutes a guy was delivering it on his bike. Warp speed.
